Frugal Film: Instant Desk for Opendesk
2020, animation

Over the years I designed many pieces of Furniture that were extremely economic in its use of material. The sizes of standard sheets of MDF or laminated sheets of plywood defined folding tables or chairs. Tables ended up with unusual sizes since it allowed seats with it and minimum off-cuts. These things you do not always see as soon as the design is finished, hence the animations realised for the exhibition Rood als tomaat, geel als citroen in Museum Valkhof Nijmegen in 2020.

Instant Desk is designed for open source platform Opendesk in 2017. From one standard sheet of plywood two foldable desks are cnc-cutted. The flexible desks are narrow (fine for laptop-work) can be set up in an instant, serving the need for flexible workspaces, adaptable to various workspace needs in smaller offices. The gap in the tabletop is a handle when holding and moving the table, and a cable hole when you set it up. The left overs of the standard sheet is extremely minimal.
