19 Sept: Hybrids - conversation, see
The classic role designer-client has changed in the last 20 years. Selfproducing designers came up, taking care of sales and production completely on their own and the once existing single-minded furniture designer is hard to find. Designers work hybrid: on different subjects (furniture, interior, product) and in various contexts (limited editions, one offs, mass production, concept development craft and high technology).
Cooperating with design magazine Modern Design Review and as an appetizer for the late night event of the Shoreditch Design Triangle on 20 Sept. an informal conversation at Ace Hotel is curated between Dutch and UK designers that work in different disciplines and contexts. Max Fraser is moderating and together they will look into the changing position of the designer, what that means to their daily practice and the future changes that might come, read more

23 Sept: Engineers, Inventors & Non-Materialists - conversation, see
Young designers are nowadays active in different positions: as entrepreneur, engineer, strategist, inventor, community worker, or combinations of that. They share knowledge, cooperate with scientists and academics and sometimes there is not even a physical object anymore. Digitalisation and online exposure moreover seemed to have accelerated all of those developments to even bigger changes for design and the role of the designer.
For the Global Design Forum at the V&A a conversation is curated between Dutch and UK designers that looks into this changing position of the designer and the future changes that might come. Moderator Max Fraser talks to the youngest generation of designers about their drives and objectives in design, read more

23 Sept: Furniture & the future - conversation at V&A Friday Late, see
Furniture is close to us. Literally. We always needed it and will need it in the future. But furniture has to deal with a rapid changing reality with changing production, promotion and selling methods, a surplus of furniture in a society where people move to smaller houses and offices and a society on the edge of consuming less and looking for different values for wellbeing than wealth. It has to get to terms with the digital, our current social context and new ways of living and working.
A conversation about the fun of and being fond of furniture and the future of furniture between a curator of the V&A, Ineke Hans - who made Cuckoo Eggs interventions in the Furniture Galleries during LDF and Gitta Gschwendtner - designer of the commisioned chair-bench in these Galleries. Moderated by Grant Gibson, read more
