Ineke Hans Salon

Furniture & us

studio-salon #1: Furniture & us

The first Studio Salon concentrates on the status quo and context of furniture design today, the changes we notice and expect and the current attitudes in the furniture world with the different positions of designers, producers, retailers, curators, design labels and press in this whole. What is furniture's identity and scope now we have so much access to images and impressions via on- and offline media that we can see more objects in a day than Queen Victoria owned in her life? What are the critical questions to ask and to deal with?

Start-up speakers:

  • Ineke Hans will introduce briefly about why she set up the salons in London specifically on furniture.
  • Benjamin Hubert completely changed the set up of his studio in 2015 and will explain why he did this, how he did it and what he is aiming for now.
  • Jana Scholze was curator of contemporary furniture at the V&A till December 2015 and just started as head of MA curating at Kingston University in partnership with the Design Museum. She will speak about her perception on furniture and questions from a curator's point of view.
